Lexicon - The Game of Skill and Excitement
Publisher: Waddingtons, 1933
|Card Game||Word||2 to 6||8+ Years||No dice||No|
A progenitor to Scrabble, Lexicon has a rich heritage dating back to the 1930s and is still published and played today. This is the first edition, the rules are dated 16 October 1933, and is arguably the finest version. The deck and small rule booklet are presented in a telescopic box, a gold coloured internal box slipping snugly into the red outer one, which looks like a pocket-sized book. The spine includes an author line 'By Atozed' (i.e. 'a to z').
A classic word game. Simply use your cards to build and lay words. Each of the cards has a letter on the front. Use the cards in your hand to lay down a word. Other players may then use their own letter to change the word that has been played.

Information about Waddingtons
Waddingtons was a UK publisher of card and board games between 1922 and 1994, when the company was bought by Hasbro. Founded by John Waddington and Wilson Barratt, the company was originally called Waddingtons Limited and its name changed several times, including to Waddington's House of Games in the 1970s.
Waddingtons was arguably Europe's best game manufacturer, producing classic board games such as Cluedo, Formula 1, Buccaneer,Totopoly and, of course, Monopoly. Waddingtons playing cards are also highly collectable.
