Tsolo - An African Game
Publisher: H P Gibson & Sons, 1954
|Board Game||Abstract||2 only||10+ Years||No dice||No|
This very rare version of Mancala comes with a traditional component - it uses shells (yellow Cyprea Moneta cowries) for the counters. On each turn you move cowries from saucer to saucer in your two rows. Your aim is to drop your last shell on your turn into an empty saucer in your top line. You collect your opponent's cowries in the two saucers opposite. The game is abstract and strategic.
Pattie Price, who is credited on the lid, was an author and expert in Bantu-speaking peoples of Africa, publishing several books in 1930s.
One goof: the rules, which are on the reverse on the lid, refer to an illustration - there is none.
